The thirteenth edition of Business Law with UCC Applications updates many key areas of
the law. As in previous editions, a great deal of care has been taken to present business law
concepts in the most coherent and accessible way and to provide up-to-date coverage of
business law topics that are essential to t o day’s students. All of the chapters for this edition
have been updated, and we have continued to enhance our coverage of the important topics
of cyber-commerce, international law, identity theft, trade secrets, abandoned property,
eminent domain, mortgages, bankruptcy, limited liability companies (LLC), ethics, the
Dodd-Frank Act, the revised Uniform Partne r ship Act, the Health Insurance Portability and
Accountability Act, the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act, the War Powers Act,
changes in state law regarding collective bargaining, the Troubled Asset Relief Program,
the Home Affordable Modification Program, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care
Act, proposed changes in the court system, the War Powers Act, and altern a tive dispute
resolution.
The popular format of the twelfth edition has been enhanced, with lear n ing objectives
identified in the margin where that material appears in the text. Each chapter begins with
an outline followed by The Opening Case, with numbered questions and Chapter Objectives.
Titles have been given to every example. Major headings and chapter summaries
continue to be numbered, fo l lowing the chapter outline. The popular case illustrations,
presenting either h y pothetical or actual situations based on well-founded court decisions,
have been retained and updated. Our Quick Quiz feature appears in each chapter and a llows
students to test their knowledge of the chapter topics while they actively study the
text. A new Self-Evident Truths feature has been included in many chapters in this edition,
giving both the instructor and the students an opport u nity to discuss stimulating, provocative,
and controversial topics suggested by the content in each chapter.
